What does Professional Passport accreditation mean?
What Professional Passport checks, how often, and what accreditation can and cannot tell you.
Professional Passport is an independent compliance organisation for the UK recruitment and contractor supply chain. An accredited provider has had its business and services reviewed against Professional Passport's standards.
What the review covers
- Company structure and ownership.
- Financial checks, including PAYE and VAT accounts with HMRC.
- Documented processes from onboarding to leaving, with evidence they are applied consistently.
- Compliance with relevant legislation, not only tax rules.
- Transparency of information given to workers.
How often providers are checked
According to Professional Passport, accredited providers reconfirm their compliance report every year, are revisited every second year for fresh evidence, and must have any new service reviewed before offering it. Source: Professional Passport compliance review services.
What accreditation does not do
Accreditation is not a government guarantee, and it does not remove an agency's or end client's liability under the April 2026 PAYE rules. It is independent evidence to use alongside your own checks.

Frequently asked questions
Can I check a provider's Professional Passport status?
Yes. Ask the provider for evidence of accreditation and confirm it directly with Professional Passport.
Is Professional Passport the same as FCSA?
No. They are separate organisations with their own standards. veriPAYE, the payslip verification tool, is run by FCSA.
